Scams, Viruses & Security Checks
If someone has had remote access to your computer, or you've had fake virus pop-ups take over the screen, the priority is simple: make it safe again, lock down your accounts, and give you the confidence to keep using it.
I remove malware and unwanted remote-access tools, check what was touched, change and secure passwords, set up two-factor authentication, and confirm in writing that the machine is clean — banks often ask for exactly that before restoring access.
I'll also sit down with you and explain what those Norton, McAfee and Microsoft prompts actually mean, which ones are real, and what to do next time.
Common problems I fix
- Clicked a link or allowed remote access after a phone call
- Fake Microsoft, McAfee or Total AV pop-ups blocking the screen
- Email or Facebook account hacked, contacts receiving spam
- 'Safe to use' letter required by your bank
- Antivirus renewal and billing prompts — real or scam?
- Two-factor authentication and password manager setup
- Security check of a phone or tablet
- Locked out — Windows password, Microsoft account or BitLocker recovery key
